Hi All

In my days with Bowens, we used to do a sync mode convertor (it was I think an inverter of some description) but we connected it direct to the car battery rather than through the cigarette lighter (I think you are wise to question that Calvers) and one model was specifically for the then Traveller G 3000w/s later Estime 3000 - so it is possible. Be careful though that all flashes take an enormous amount of power in the initial stage or recharge which then tails off.

That is why you have to be cautious if using a generator as it takes time for the generator to adjust to the load and it then puts out a surge of power when it is no longer needed and long term (or even short term) that does your equipment no good at all. That is why it is recommended to have a 2Kw tungsten lamp (or electric fire) also running off the generator to equalise the load. I suspect this is not problem with an inverter, and to bring it back to a digital topic <g> I would take professional advice before running a flash and anything digital off the same inverter - and I certainly wouldn't want to do it with a generator.

Neil, That was exactly my concern. I'm sure that a 2.4 turbo diesel isn't going to worry about being used as a generator for a bit, and I'm sure that a big inverter can handle watts-a-plenty. Its really that flimsy bit in between that makes me worry about the 'fire' clause in my car insurance!
