Do not jest so....we have some Macs here too you know<BG> and from what I read all the TLC has been to no avail. Being a practical sort of chap I thought perhaps a more 'hands-on' approach was called for now!
In a really, really desperate situation us Mac users put two asprin under the lid of the iBook, a hot water bottle underneath and put it on a soft pillow overnight with a gentle light on in the room. In the morning we hope to see a gently pulsing light on the front.
That's never worked for me <G>

Oh well just a thought, it's worked for some and it is a little more gently than throwing it out of the nearest window, which perhaps is what John is now contemplating doing.
