This approach worked for me with a PowerBook. It turned out to be the hard drive wasn't seated properly, took it out, put it back and it was fixed. Might be the same kind of fix as works with Epson clog heads, you remember, taking it for a Sunday afternoon drive over potholed Welsh (or Chinese) roads. And it does work.
