You could try zapping the Pram by starting up with the apple+option+P+R keys down. Keep the keys held down until you hear the chime three times, then let it boot up as usual.

Here's one you forgot to mention for really, really desperate situations. Give it a really good thump....could be a bad connection perhaps? Might be a better move to open it up first and check the connections are all OK, then if still does not work remove the hard drive then give it that thump. Oh well that's the best I can offer<G>
