Are there any problems with the printer when it produces prints? It might be one of those messages that occurs for no real reason!
It might just be worth checking inside to ensure that the rollers are OK, the print head is clean (there is a pad underneath the the inks that can get saturated with ink)
I take it there are no funny noises - or other signs that it is not working as you would expect.
The usual thing with most machines is that they develop faults early or just after the warranty runs out! But generally Epson printers are pretty reliable if they have been going.
