No harm whatsoever if it were not for the frequency of questions that can be answer by RTFM. I too ask dumb questions at times but also occasionally answer other peoples questions. My point of view is this: What was once a vibrant, elitist group of imaging professionals has become a humdrum talking shop where perhaps 50 people talk and 1500 listen. Those 1500 contribute nothing to the list so why are they on it? > So for > someone else ( and this is not directed at you Steve ! ) to say that the > topics are not techincal or interesting or thought provoking enough then I > feel that they should realize that they are here not only to learn but to > help other I'm not trying to stop you learning or teaching. What I am saying is that most list members only take & never give. For most of us its a one way transaction with little return. Just why should I teach people who never ever give anything in return - I refer to the silent 1500 (or more) I'm reminded of something that happened 3 years ago: Canon phoned me up & wanted to send 3 Japanese scientists to pick my brains about the future of imaging and how they can change their ideas to better fit the market. No offer of even a free lunch in return for commercially valuable information (I flatter myself here). In other words a give only situation to a multinational. You can imagine my reply. I would advocate a registration system that would at the very least hold a bio of each member in order that you knew who you were talking to (if you wanted to look them up) plus a declaration from each member that their income derived from professional imaging. Whether or not that would improve the list topics is unknown but it would create a group conversing as equals.
