But you guys are living in a different world. Try to explain this stuff
to "just plain folks" (like my *family*). Ed and others have said it
before (but more eloquently): this stuff should be about as easy and
hazardous as using a refrigerator.
My dad has been using a PC since 1999.
He STILL doesn't really quite understand the difference between folders
and files. Or why there's a "C" and a "D" drive on his computer.
But he uses OpenOffice and Firefox (and this fall, I'm moving him to
Thunderbird).
None of it is quite as easy as using a refrigerator (although to see my
wife cook, maybe a frig is harder to use than it looks), but File | Save
is File | Save, and pushing the button with the dark "B" makes the
highlighted stuff on the page darker, no matter if you're using Word,
OpenOffice, WordPerfect or The GIMP. And that's about all he knows (or
needs to know) to do.
