I'm not sure what you're talking about. I responded to someone that said 
they "...have never seen..." MS do a screw-you-bypass install before. I 
showed him one of the links to prove they had. And in that case happened to 
get caught at it.

Next, if you're saying people "... no longer have this issue..." because 
they've turned off auto-updates, well, that's the point. You're deluding 
yourself. MS can do it again at will. This latest round may be a bit 
different - aka "supposed to notify before install" but this time didn't 
notify. Maybe those that have auto-updates turned off didn't get this 
particular install. It's still clear MS can choose to ignore whatever 
"system" setting the user sets in Windows.

And then if you're saying some people experienced the screw-you-bypass 
install because they "...may have never turned it off..." that wasn't the 
point of the discussion at all (assuming you meant they did not turn off 
auto-updates). I think everyone realizes if you enable auto-updates you get 
what you ask for - that is, auto-updates from MS which may or may not hose 
your system or apps.
