We've talked about this before when defending using VFP vs. something
else. Most of us either develop for our own company, develop for small
business, or develop a specialized application for a large business. I
don't think too many of us are developing enterprise level applications
(just a WAG). They hire me because I can get the job done. I have
never been asked what language I am using.

Having said that, I am not confused at all by all of the choice out
there. I rely on the experience of Whil, Ed, Ted, Kevin, Paul and all
of the others that have made recommendations and then I look for the
license that suits me. I think any savvy customer would do the same
thing - rely on experts and research. Ed's point is spot on about the
anti virus stuff. I think that is one reason why Office is unusable on
my machine; Windows firewall, AVG, Zone Alarm Pro Internet Suite,
Norton Virus Builder Suite & System Freezer and a few others I've
installed for evaluation.

I was there when Whil handed out the Red Hat disk and wondered where it
would all take us and Ed has been a Mac guy for a long time and started
with Python a few years ago. They have opened up the eyes of this
community to opportunities beyond Microsoft and VFP. Now many of us are
still developing in VFP on Windows, but learning to use new development
tools on Windows and other platforms.

Due to the efforts of these "stayers" leading the way, and all of the
other profoxers; just think of the collective knowledge and experience
of this small group. How many posts have we seen that start out, "I
know this is not related to FoxPro but I know there is someone here that
has the answer."
