Jeff, I did not say three different versions of the same stupid OpenOffice.Org software, I was talking about any "Office" package, in the generic sense. I surely can understand your correlation given the discussion started with the three versions of OOo, but that is not what I am referring to. I have the same problems with the different SKUs for MS Office bringing confusion to the marketplace as I do with three organizations forking the same core app. It has nothing to do with what is best or not. It has nothing to do with the freedom to be able to do it. It has nothing to do with competition. It has nothing to do with limiting people's choices. It has nothing to do what is technically superior, compatible, non-compatible, or secure. My point is simple. It has to do with the confusion it brings to the marketplace. For some reason people keep dragging this back into choice vs. non-choice, MS vs. the world of open source, man vs. women, enlightened vs. the followers, intelligence vs. the stupid.
I am not being critical of your choices Jeff, or anyone else's. I say go for it. I could not care less about why you have selected OOo. Business decisions for the sake of what is best for you is fine. All this started when Ted, who lead the charge against me the last time I brought up confusion in the marketplace, pointed out exactly what I was saying the first time around. You are all off track from my original observation. Sorry for wasting your time.
