Ken,

Write a small application you can get to the client. This application will
have a couple of things available to them.
1) The ability to delete the semaphore file
2) using ShellExec API, launch Explorer in the paths common to what the
application uses, or you need to get to.

There is a setting in the registry that changes the amount of time Windows
will wait for a service or application to gracefully exit before stopping it
down during shutdown. Consider adjusting the messagebox timeout to 15
seconds when the ON SHUTDOWN has been fired.

Thanks for responding.

Hm. I do know that if I hunt enough, I can find a way to run good ol'
Windows Explorer in Vista, from which I should theoretically be able to get
hidden files unhidden. But if everything isn't where I expect to find it, or
if UAC gets in the way of changing file access attributes, I'm not sure I
know enough to talk somebody through it over the phone. Hopefully she
managed to find the file. Otherwise she's going to have to have somebody
come in to deal with it; she's two hours away from me one way.

My MessageBoxes all time out after 30 seconds. I would assume in that case
that the shutdown would proceed after the timeout. It certainly does in an
ordinary shutdown (via the "X" button in the main window) when a MessageBox
is open.

I'm not sure what you mean by an "open edit".

I do not bind form controls to table fields nor do I mess with tables in
form DataEnvironments. I use nonvisual Business and Data Manager objects for
all CRUD operations. All classes that host added objects through composition
on the fly explicitly remove those objects when they (the
hosts) are destroyed. I don't use private datasessions.

My On Shutdown routine calls a method of my Form Manager object to close all
open windows.

After CLEAR EVENTS, it issues

CLOSE ALL

among other things.

Am I missing something on MessageBoxes or open tables?

Thanks again.
