Of course you can't deny that point. However, it has nothing to do
with what we're doing, so you might as well argue that the sky is blue.

Before the US government invaded Iraq, the "terrorists" (what a
crappy, ill-defined term) that they were fighting were al-Qaeda, and
they were centered (although not limited to) Afghanistan. US troops
pushed them back to the Pakistan border, and then stopped. If the
nonsense such as "fight them over there" had any merit at all, we
would have persisted that front and captured/eliminated the main
members who had attacked us. Instead, they pulled back, and concocted
elaborate deceptions about Saddam and 9/11 in order to justify the
invasion that they had been planning since the 1990s (see the PNAC
documents). What began then was a never-ending justification for
looting the public treasury to enrich the very people who were behind
these plans.

The military requires competitive bidding for most things, but there
is a loophole: if someone declares that an emergency exists, the
bidding process can be scrapped and no-bid contracts can be awarded.
This loophole exists to prevent red tape from tying up an emergency
response, and makes a lot of sense. What doesn't make sense is that
it has been 6 years since 9/11, and nearly 5 since the Iraq invasion,
and contracts are still being handed out on "emergency" basis. If you
want to know why the "war" (it's not a war; it's an occupation) costs
so much, much of your answer can be found here.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. These scoundrels are
looting public funds, and then throwing "patriotic" jingoism in our
faces to defend their theft. If you have any interest in the truth at
all, ignore all the emotional arguments, and simple follow the money.
See where it is going. See the connections between the people
receiving this money and the people in charge of overseeing these
expenditures.
