While I would probably agree with much of what you said, your statements 
are not facts, but opinions.  There are probably an equal number of 
persons (military and otherwise) who would side differently from your 
retired Marine colonel and those other soldiers.  But then, you already 
knew that.

It wouldn't make it right, but I'd say that Iraq should be paying us a 
huge sum of remunerations for all of the expense this war has cost us.  
Of course, no money can ever replace the lives lost in this seemingly 
senseless, ill-planned, mis-managed offensive.  I would think that an 
overwhelming majority would have been in favor of bypassing Iraq 
altogether and instead pursuing Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan with as 
much military might.

Still---many bad guys (terrorists/jihadists/fanatics) have gone onto 
Allah and are no longer here to threaten/fight us.   (...shields up!)
