I am greatly concerned about the consequences of MS's action and it's impact on my projects, true. I also care about the principles involved. FoxPro (I've never liked that name!) is one of the greatest inventions of all time in the software business. It doesn't deserve the fate MS designed for it. Then there's the matter of predatory business practices by MS, which violates other principles. So there's at least 3 reasons to be very concerned, maybe more, but fear isn't one of them. > 2) If you were a public company, you would have had a fiduciary duty > to minimize the downside of the risk you were taking by planning for > alternatives. You now have a 7-year or so window to transition to > something else, and yet you steadfastly refuse to do so. You're saying transition is the only option, but Christof's product says otherwise. And as far-out as it may seem to consider the VM approach today, it's not impossible. So even today there are 2 paths, and a lot can change in this business in 7 years. I'm also taking 'transiting' to mean 're-write', but that's just not an option. Even if I wanted to, there's absolutely no way I could throw another million+ - and another bunch of years - into this. I'm not in a position, and after several complete re-writes, I'm burned out on that approach anyway. The only way is forward, even if it means a trip right the valley of the shadow ... > Microsoft is acting in its own interests. The same > cannot be said for you. It's also true that I've acted honorably and MS has not. Predatory and deceitful practices are dishonorable. In the grand scheme of things, if that means nothing, then I suppose you're right.
