The email I received from Symantec in response to this problem is copied
below, with my response following. Haven't heard from them again.

It really caught me by surprise that the product would be hog-tied to a
specific version of the .net framework, yet here it is. Of course
Symantec is crying all the way to the bank.

Hi Bill,

Welcome back to Symantec Online Technical Support.

I understand from your message that you need to install .NET Framework
2.0 for the function of Visual C++ Compiler. But Norton Ghost 9 does not
function after the installation of .NET Framework.

Bill, please note that Norton Ghost 9 requires .NET Framework 1.1 to
run on your computer. Moreover, please note that the latest versions of
Norton Ghost 9, Norton Ghost 10 and Norton Save and Restore requires
.NET Framework 1.1 to function. I apologize for any inconvenience this
may cause you.

Any comments or concerns you have for the enhancement of our products

Thanks for the reply, James.

Please tell your management that you've got at least one really unhappy
customer over this surprise ...
