For anyone wanting to try Ubuntu, I would get hold of Sun's VirtualBox (free, and much better than VirtualPC since it supports the USB ports on the host PC and so on). Then create a virtual Ubuntu 9.04 PC, and install the guest additions. This will let the virtual machine use the 3D-acceleration functions on the host PC graphics card. Then crank up the desktop effects in Ubuntu.
