OK.  I think you are saying there is a way to set Windows so that it 
does not make a system restore point, then run combofix and this won't 
make any problematic corrections.  Is that right?

Anyhow the point is moot right now as I will be putting in a new hard 
drive today and reinstalling everything (oh joy).
