Not mentioned so far is electrical grid.  Set the electrical grid
slightly less (2 mil) than the snap to grid and visible grid.  Another
poblem that bit me was that the footprint pad number must be the same as
the component pin numbers, or they will not connect.  i.e. a component
with pins "A, B, C"  will not netlist with a footprint numbered "1, 2,
3".  It's easy to misnumber a footprint that you're building and forget
to fix it!
