Only when "less code" is combined with "readable code" and "maintainable
code". ;-)

(very dumb) examples:
 /ba[rz]/.test(foo)
 vs
 foo === 'bar || foo === 'baz'
or
 for( i = k.length; --i >= 0;)
 vs
 for( i = k.length-1; i >= 0; i--)
