"For me" is key here, creativity is indeed all about limitations, and where you get them from is what is interesting. For some people it's a working in a particular style, for others it's trying to stick within an more ideological frame, it's an individual choice. Some people strive to make their own electronic components, grind their own pigments etc. I consider free software purists as inspirational people, even if I don't choose to go as far as them.
