Ok. It's basically this simple:
- the OpenBSD ports maintainers are free to remove or include any
piece of software they want (given license permits, which it *does* in
this case)
- djb wants you to install his software according to his instructions,
for good reasons (http://cr.yp.to/compatibility.html)
- the OpenBSD ports maintainers do not want to conform to these
instructions, so they removed the port
Basically, they are too stubborn to create a port that installs
according to djb's instructions, with a big fat warning or *whatever*.
I think it's stupid, but that's just my two eurocents.
Let's not get into a flamewar here. These people are completely in
their right to remove qmail from the ports. If you want to flame
*them*, go right ahead, but a flamewar here is useless. There is
nothing wrong with djb's licensing.
