Using an immersion heater will place an unusual load or drain on the battery. Continous use would zap the amps and power. Just ask any DME. Immersion heaters draw big amps and not just volts. I would expect to lose about 15% of your battery life . Back up power for a cell phone is a good idea as long as you don't use it all of the time.
