Its not the 12volt "burn up" that concerns me but rather the back volts going into the controller of a very expensive, complex rehab chair. Just so one could heat up some chocolate on a cold night. Immersion heaters draw big amps and not just volts. I would expect to lose about 15% of your battery life . Back up power for a cell phone is a good idea as long as you don't use it all of the time.
