I have a Q605, 36 MB Ram, and an Ethernet card and I want to replace the HD with a new Quantum Fireball 3.5 Series 1.2 gig Model 1280S SCSI Hard Drive I got from eBay. I can't seem to do it. Does this HD work with a Q605?
It didn't come with any software or literature but I was able to find the jumper settings on the web. I am not sure if I need to have termination enabled or not. I have an external CD-ROM hooked up. I tried it both ways but it didnt make any difference. I don't think that is my problem though. I think the problem is that (Im guessing) it is formatted HFS+. When I try to boot from a OS 7.1 Disk Tools disk, I get the message that it's the wrong System for this computer. Huh? It works fine with my old HD. When I insert my OS 8.1 CD, I boot up fine but Drive Setup will only recognize the CD-ROM. Running off my CD, I was able to stick a OS 7.1 Disk tools disk in the floppy drive and run Drive Setup but still no recognition of the HD. I have tried Drive Setup 1.7.3, HD SC 7.3.5(with and without the ResEdit modification for non-Apple Drives). No luck. I was able to fit ScsiProbe 4.3 on the floppy and that sees the HD as ID 0, and my CD_ROM as ID 6. Thats what I want to see so I know I dont have a SCSI conflict. I tried fitting Lido 7.56 on the floppy but it wont fit. I was able to put the init in the extensions folder but there wasnt enough room for pMount. I tried it anyway and it scanned. It sees my CD_ROM as ID 6 but shows ID 0 empty. I get the message Inquiry and request auxiliary sense commands failed. I would like to be able to run TENON Intersystems Professional Mach Ten 2.3 (so I dont have to partition the HD; It runs as an application within the Mac OS), with either full OS 7.1 or preferrably OS 8.1 for its Internet capability. Any ideas? TIA. _________________________________________________________________ Talk Stocks with Smart Investors -- http://www.ragingbull.com Click Below for Brokerage Specials for Raging Bull Users http://www.ragingbull.com/tradingcenter -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
