Willi,
Wow, that was rambling if I ever heard it. ;-) Let me start by re-affirming Anna's post by saying that the Hard Disk Toolkit has saved me time and time again. Particularly when having to recover drive's I purchased off of eBay. I've mostly needed to use it when I have a drive that has parked heads, or that is non-repsonsive. Sometimes I have the unfortunate luck of getting drives that have broked, or cracked, components (nothing can fix those - except a new controller board for the HD). Congrats on that purchase. About your MacTen fix. I'll assume you've done all the neccessary research about the software. It sounds cool - integrating the Mac with UNIX. Personally, I leave that up to OS X or A/UX. If you want to experience what the X interface is like, I think you are on the right track. If you'd really like to learn *nix - install NetBSD. Learning from the ground up is very helpful. You'll need at least 500 MB to play with for NetBSD. I'm not sure how deevelopment is on the 68k platform. I think I have a 700 MB (Mac ROM HD) in my Sun Sparc IPC, and although I'm pretty much out of space. I have all of the applications I need on it. > Now Ill answer Rafs question and talk a little > further about my *nix dilema. I don't think those 2 manuals will help you understand *nix any better. You really need to try installing it so that you can experience it yourself. Relax, NetBSD has extensive documentation available on-line, plus the folks on the mailing list are very friendly. http://www.netbsd.org/Ports/mac68k Do the research. Take your time. Don't purchase any more clutter - Its okay, I have the same problem. :) Good luck, and do keep me posted. --raf ------------------------------------------------------------------- Rafael A.
