 From my testing (on an LCIII) I have found OS 7.5.5 too sluggish on 
030s. It's pure crap on a crutch on anything slower. I still strongly 
advocate 7.1 for 030 or earlier. I have to ask if you have any 020 or 
000 machines? If so give it a try but don't come cryin' to me when it 
takes 5 mins to do a 5 second operation (I think 7.5.5 will run on a 
Classic and an SE BTW). 8.1 is too much if you either have less that 8MB 
of RAM or you have a 25MHz or slower 040. Unless you need HFS+ or 
specifically need 8.1 for anything else, like an ISP, then 7.6.1 is 
still your best bet IMHO, YMMV. It depends what you are willing to put 
up with.
