I beg to differ, a 25MHz 040 is stretched too much by 8.1 and so is not
within handling it by a length, I would really deliberate for a while
before I tried it on a 33MHz 040 but it runs fine on a 40MHz (a mere
7MHz faster than a 33Mhz) so I think that'd be fine.

I think this whole thing boils down to 3 camps.

One side likes to get the most out of a machine by having a little OS
overhead as possible and running everything from RAM disk to get the
most speed, even if it means tooling around with extensions that are not
necessarily designed to work with it. Pickle being a fine example.

The other side gets the most out of the machine by using the OS that is
most flexible and can run the most software and is as up-to-date as is
feasible. Me for example.

There is probably another camp in the middle who either use what the
get, use what they can get for free or use the one that balances speed
and ability and effort saving.

I belong to the latter of the above two as I believe the less effort you
have to go to to get something to work the better, maybe I'm just a
lazy fat-ass ;).
