You'll be surprised. I wasn't exagerating when I said 5 mins. It
took about 2 minutes to get the old one off to compare with the new
one before purchase and about 5 minutes to fit the new one. The
longest time was crawling into the footwell and getting out again.
Guess you could always tie a rope around your legs and get someone to
pull you out with another car if you get wedged!!!!! :). It is
actually easier if you take the steering wheel off, but I managed
(just) without.

You might also want to check why it broke; other Xtreme owners might
want to check also. On mine (Zetec version) there is an ally tube
bolted to the bulkhead which provides a location and guide for the
cable. The cable came off at an angle where it goes onto the pedal
quadrant and had worn through the alum and then chafed on the sharp
stainless edge of the bulkhead. This was exacerbated on mine becuase
I had knocked the guide slightly out of alignment, I guess when I had
taken the engine out. I have now opened out the hole in the bulkhead,
radiused the edge of the ally tube and greased it.
