So when you finally figure out that to get the quadrant back to it's normal position you have to stick a screwdriver up the back ov the pedal to release the rachet pawl, it does only take five minutes.
However getting to this stage took me about 30 minutes upside down time... I got so frustated I decided to take the pedal off it's pivot bar and out of the car to reset the quadrant. DO NOT TRY THIS... 1) the clip flies off and hits you in the face. 2) once you have removed the clip there is not enough free space to get the pedal out anyway. 3) it then takes you another 10 minutes getting the @!$££! clip back on again. My cable seems to have been taken from a donor car, and was badly heat damaged where it goes past the exhaust (pinto engine). There was no outer sleeve left and the gap had been covered with aluminium tape. The same heat that damaged the outer sleeve also took out the inner sleeve, letting the cable run against the metal spiral wrap. This explains why the clutch had been so heavy and notchy. The pinto pedal box just has a hole for the cable to locate in so alignment is not an issue. With the new cable in, the clutch bites lower and is much smoother in action. A win all round. As SWMBO says, by the time I've finished, the whole car will be new! ... and rest... Ian On 16 Apr, 06:57, nigelp <[email protected]> wrote: > You'll be surprised.
