I agree. In particular I like the approach of aspect-oriented programming used in Radiant extensions. I think Rails is moving towards that sort of idiom as well, with the recent work on plugins having their own routes and translations as well as the usual M/V/Cs. However you must understand that the Radiant forum extension is competing against vBulletin, which my client is used to. I'm not saying vBulletin is good, it is just what the client is used to. And phpBB is the closest open source alternative.
