Wired and local server should be pretty reliable. My alarm has only failed completely two or three times in the near two years I've been using the radio and then the problem was due to a power cut in the night (which took down my server). I have heard the unbelievably loud and annoying backup alarm sound many more times than I would have liked to though. A very rude awakening indeed.
