You would think that a static IP would connect more quickly but the
truth is it's about the same as the client machine still polls the
network for potential clashes of IP address before accepting the static
IP. It doesn't need to do this when it's DHCP as that's a continual job
of the server.

One my reasons for not running DHCP on the router is power related. My
servers are protected by UPS but the router isn't.
