They got it.  It is normal to forget it in time.  No recollection and no
basic skills for a 12 year old that is asking for GMA status is pushing
the envelope in my opinion.  Let him practice it a few times.  Quiz him
on it.  In a few years he will indeed know it and beable to show it to
you then he is a GMA canidate with honor.

In the old program a boy did several things more than once.  This was
used to reinforce what he was taught.  I teach our boys cut and chop
certifcation every year in our Pinewood Derby Lockin Pioneers and
above...all have to go through it each year.  I was told they will reduce
the number of times a boy does things in the new program.  My concern
here is in this process are we processing numbers but not real GMA's.  

Teach something one time.  Most of it will be forgot in a few months. 
Teach it over and over and some will be retained.  My two cents.
