Hi,

In my outpost we do have one system for both discipline and advancements. We
once had a different system and from what we experienced then I designed a
new system which works really great.
In our former system the rangers could earn several points for wearing
complete uniform, bringing their bibles, books etc. in each meeting. The
effect was if one of them was not able to attend a meeting for what reason
ever he was so far behind the others it was hardly possible to reach them
again. So many rangers lost interest in the concurrence.
Another effect was some thought it was not a too big effect not to gain one
of the points in the concurrence, so they came without uniform or they
didn't behave etc. And in the end they had however collected more points
than others if they had always attended the meetings.
So the most important thing in our new rules is: You can only gain ONE point
per meeting which contains uniforms, bibles, books, behaviour. If you have
everything you need and you behave disciplined during the meeting you will
gain it, if not you'll lose it.
Second rule is you can gain a whole lot of extra points. Those are for
winning a game or solving the question which we ask in the beginning of
every meeting, for bringing a friend, knowing your bible verses etc.
Third and last rule is: There is only ONE possibility to lose the
'attendance point' which you should have gained in todays meeting (except
from not fulfilling the rules for attendance points). We have a 'patrol of
service' in each meeting, whose job is (during the meeting) to lead us in
the pledges and (after the meeting) to clean the rooms. If it is your
patrol's turn to clean the rooms and you do not help the rest of your patrol
(for what reason ever) you will lose your attendance point.

We also had a boy who said he would not continue to take part in the
concurrence as he thought he would never win against some other boys. We
talked him into it again and today he is one of our top-rangers. He had to
try hard, but he gained such an amount of extra points that he succeeded.

We gave book-cheques for the local christian bookstore to the winners of our
concurrence.

That

During my time in the army I wrote a program of 84 meeting plans for
pioneers which covers the whole (german) pioneer advancements. Part of it is
a book with lessons on the requirements which each of our pioneers got from
the outpost. So there are two ways to get your requirements. First attend
the meetings regularly (so you'll be taught all the requirements). The
second (and possibly faster) way is: read your book and teach yourself.
