I don't let the parent pass off the Advancements. Even if the child is in
the parents group. As you stated, the father was a Straight Arrow's
Commander. The Pioneer Commander should be RESPONSIBLE for signing off any
advancements. If the Father is the boys Commander, I would have an other
Commander of that age group or Sr. Commander or one of the Outpost Council
members. This way it will be fair, even though in most cases the father is
harder on his own son. But you should have someone else sign him off.

I need to find how some of you have handed this situation. We have a boy in
Pioneers whose dad is the Straight Arrow Commander. This dad has been a
commander for over 7 years so he knows his stuff. The dad has been working
with him on his advancements and has passed off most of them. As Sr
Commander, I have given my approval for this. However I am beginning to
have
second thoughts about this. What have other outposts done in regard to
commanders passing off advancements for their son? Thoughts?
