I dunno Duane, this whole conversation goes directly to the heart
of the Royal Ranger Ministry, what it does, why it does it...
If we wanted to replicate Boy Scouts, we would have simply adopted
the Boy Scout program and had a PROGRAM. Instead we built a Ministry
that uses scouting techniques to draw the boys to the church. That's
one of the reasons why I didn't and don't have a problem with the new
directions that the National Office is taking... I'm seeing some real
changes in the nature of the boys I deal with in Pioneers. About half
have only a passing interest in camping or learning campcraft. But if
we set up visits to skateboard parks, that half would go nuts with
anticipation. And I have several kids that are perfectly content to
stay indoors, play video games and surf the internet. It pains me to
say it, but the boys and their interests are changing...
So that was a long roundabout way of asking the question...
What is the purpose of the Royal Ranger Ministry?
Are we aiming at raising up Leaders?
Or at raising up Christian young men?
Or both?
