I don't want a book burning. I just don't allow certain things in the hands
of my children. Once my son read a Goosebumps book, he had such a
nightmare. It won't happen again. He and my daughter know there are movies
they don't dare ask to see. It is just this way. Yes there are
substitutions. They have a ton of books, they have music lessons, we take
nature walks and we are forever doing something.

I'm thinking that Christians could get some great media
by building a big bonfire and throwing school books into it..
You might think that is going to help, but honestly it won't.
Our faith, and the virtue it holds, will defend it's self
because of it's positive values. You may for the short term
control the content of the information to your child, but if
the substitute does not feed the "whole man" then the search
for truth, justice and fair play will show that all you did
was limit the resources of the student. Respect for others
may be retarded.
History is full of situations where people founded colonies
to preserve cultures and Religious dogma. In time, a greater
ideal was discovered than mearly preserveing a limited viewpoint.
In the Scout troop we recently had a boy in a review state that
he did not hold a "faith in God". His advancement is hung up
by the fact that his Parents are letting their son discover for
himself what his "beliefs" will be. The Troop does not accept
from a boy, faith in: "Mother Earth" or "The great Pumpkin"<G>
How easy it would be to sit Tyler down and lecture him on
the salvation road, with scripture and verse. As secular as
a BSA troop is, *you have to beleve in something, of substance.
*Pray for Tyler Broadwater...
When Scouts say you have a duty to God.. they mean it. They do
not tell you what that is however.. for that is private.
The difference between RR and Scouts comes from the point called:
Reverence- He is reverent to God, and faithfull in his religious
duties, and respects the convictions of others in matters of custom
and religion.
This means that right before our Christian eyes, we may see voiced
thinking that is not 100% straight arrow Assembly of God doctrine.
We may be challanged to carry a polite converstation with a LDS
Scout and wish him a nice day<G> *Does speaking to him, potentialy
undermine the faith of the Christian?
*Perhaps.. But a virtue could be found in just learning to be *polite.
Does reading a Harry Potter book undermine our faith.. our does it
confront our desires to control the information intake, to shape
the outcome of a young persons life?
*Perhaps.. but is this the battlefront line of culture?
