I haven't read all the articles covered every where, but from what I have heard my understanding is that they were not under a power line (like the first picture that I saw looked like). They were camping next to it and lost control of the pole while setting it up (guess that is why 4 of them were holding it).
Although that was along the line of my first reaction, lets take a step back and think about this. They have been there since what the 1980's and this has never happened. Because of the ACLU and their lawsuit they don't have the support of the Army like they use too. I know going to Sectional, District, and even Camporama, when setting up, things get rushed. At Camporama there is like what 5,000, the Boy Scouts have what 40,000? That is a big difference and a lot of confusion going on. I'm willing to say that no Boy Scout will ever put anything up again without looking around. Willing to say that none of us ever will either. Seems like a remember a few years back that a Ranger fell while repelling, a Commander followed him down to help and both ended up dieing. Does that mean that Rangers isn't safe anymore? Repelling or rock climbing isn't safe anymore? I don't mean to diminish either tragic accident and the deep pains they have caused many, but by comparison, the Rangers loosing 2 is a much higher percentage then Boy Scouts loosing 4. Accidents are going to happen, we need to pray and try to learn and be as safe as we always can. I also think we need to support the Boy Scouts as brothers. Help them out when we can, I've even thought about going on a joint campout with a troop and helping each other out. I know from surfing the net for different topics that the Boy Scouts have many things we as Rangers use. Maybe we could learn a few things from them, teach them a few, especially around the campfire at night with a council fire.
