We had a So MO boy struck by lightning at Camporama 3 years ago. Those nice
metal poles that we use to hold up tarps that shade us from the sun do make
a nice lightning rod. The boy went home early but had no ill effects other
than shucks Gus it hurts to get hit by lightning. I would rather chance the
lighting than get sun stroke in those July days.
Every time you get a bunch of people together someone is going to trip slip
or fall or not drink water or not go to the bathroom or eat too much or eat
food that wasn't properly stored or cooked... or as we all know the list
goes on and on.
Working around power lines on a daily basis it would surprise you just how
ignorant people are. A lot of people are killed each year from downed power
lines or inadvertently coming in contact with them. I have seen people do
some very very very dangerous things and not give it a second thought. Joe
public just because he puts on a ranger emblem or a boyscout emblem on his
shirt doesn't automatically make him wiser than Joe Public.
Ever wondered why they don't allow camp fires at camporama? They don't
want the accidents that are associated with the whole process of gathering,
cutting, hauling and then the fire is the last great "We don't want the
liability of it all"....
Stuff happens that is why we need to be READY for Anything. That includes
anything. Even the best prepared plans can go bad when they go bad. It's
life. We as Royal Rangers do have a Advocate that does keep us from many of
these unforeseen things in most cases not all. Stay prayed up and walk in
the Anointing of the Holy Ghost and be ready for anything and do the best
you can. That is all God really asks of us any way.

p.s. I just got back from a trip to the Colorado mountains. Tent camped at
9k elevation and went up to 12 k elevations. It was BEEEUUUTIFULLLL. John
Denver was playing in the back ground. I did stay a few nights in a
airconditioned camper on the way there and back. It's nice to be home!

Is it just me, or does it appear Boy Scouts is becoming unsafe?
Four deaths in one week, come on. Why on earth would anyone sit up a tent
near a power line anyway?
Your not going to tell three out three leaders didn't know a power line
was there.
Then there was the recent deal about a Boy Scout being struck by lighting.
If some scout leaders are that dumb why are they leading boys?
Are we doing much better in Rangers?
