If it really bothers you enough to mention it on the lists

Frequently? I don't follow you here.
Well you have recently responded 4 times in this thread. ;-)
Also, it doesn't bother me at al, since the problem went away for me.
Did it really go away or did you simply learn to cope with it?
Probably about the same time it took to write one letter to the
lists.
In order to file a bug report you need to document steps to
reproduce the problem.
In this case I disagree with you. The only step is to run Rb debugs
enough times.
In order to do that I'd have to know what the cause was. I didn't
know that. I could have written five times the email I sent to the
list for completing one bug report.
I disagree. The facts are that this particular problem can only be
traced by RS itself. That is if they are made aware of the problem.
There's also the [possibility that they are already aware but haven't
come up with a solution yet. The r4 deadline was hard to meet as it
stands and compromises might have been made. I generally restart my
computer at least once per day but others don't.
Secondly, I did once report a bug; RS couldn't reproduce it and
marked it fixed, and completely ignored my follow ups. That was RS'
encouragement for me to report bugs in the future.
If it was important to you then I can see why you might be
discouraged. Just because RS says they can't reproduce something
doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. It simply means that they
don't have something in their hand that they can use. It often is
because there is no example submitted or the wording in the report is
too vague.
For example, how many times have people stated on the lists that they
"want to do something but it doesn't work. Why?" without providing
enough information to even understand the problem?
No big deal, if that's how it's done. Just don't expect me to play
stupid again.
If you wish to remain silent in the future, so that you don't feel
"stupid", then that is your choice. As far as I am concerned, I have
never thought of you in that manner. Frustrated perhaps, but who
isn't when there are problems that one cannot solve by themselves for
external reasons.
Regards,
Terry
