If they could sign Bay in left and deal Ellsbury/Bucholz for Gonzalez then I would be feeling good, but it seems like they have parted ways with Bay. Holliday also appears to be off the map. It feels like the team is playing for the wildcard spot again.

Ellsbury's OBP is in the lower third of major-league leadoff hitters and he doesn't provide a ton of power. I like the kid and I like what he brings, but I think the upgrade to Gonzalez is worth it, especially given that Mike Cameron can play center field. Any chance they make the deal for Gonzalez, who's on a very club-friendly deal at the moment, and still sign Bay to play left? That team would stack up very favorably against the Yankees.
