Hmmm, it just seems like if there were enough toxins from the heater to kill
the fish, they would have done the same to your corals. Anyways, instead of
dissecting what it was that did it, lets focus on continuing to fix it. I
think you are on the right path. Keep on changing H2O. Also, watch your pH,
alk and temp. Try to make sure they do not sway too much as you are changing
more and more water. You may consider changing the carbon out in 24hrs or
so, just to really pull any crap left in the water out. You should also take
pictures and send them to visi therm, and tell them their crappy fricken
heater burned your tank out, let them know you are on a list and that you
have told the list never to use their heaters and that they are lucky
nothing caught on fire.

As someone else mentioned, EboJager heaters are excellent, and IMO, superior
in their design. I ONLY run Ebos, and have a couple running that are 5 years
old. They are truly worth the extra few bucks you pay for them. On that
note, do you have anything in the tank now to keep the temp steady?

Again, sorry to hear that this happened to you. I know there is not much a
stranger can do to make you feel better over an email message, but these
things, unfortunately, do happen. You have to move ahead and finish your
refugium and begin slowly stocking your tank again.
