Good to hear Ken, sounds like your tank has begun to recover. The smell you
had in the tank was just that, electrical burn smell. It is one of the worst
and most challening smells to remove from anything. Your water, substrate
and tank itself (plus your sump and any other equipment in the system) had
absorbed it, and now the carbon has pulled it out. I would continue to run
carbon for a while longer (personally I run it all the time now). As far as
fish, obviously, you are going to want a reef safe fish. Take your time, and
pick a NICE mix of fish, maybe some that you realized you would really love
to have after you had finsished stocking prior to your accident. You
probably are going to need some type of algae eating fish, so a nice small
tang might be a start, or a six line wrasse, or a royal gramma, long nose
hawk or a small school of chromis or cardinals. Those would all be a good
"test" type fish that would also be fish that could be kept in the reef
indefinetly. Personally, I would add a fish soon to make sure things are
smoothed out, but not to let your bacteria counts drop to low in the tank
(you need fish to help those stay balanced over time).
IMO,
Shane C.
