Hi Mike,

Speaking for myself, I don't see anything wrong with going the school route.
I don't know much about the program but it might be a good introduction to
the world of web design. But frankly, I am not sure that it will be much
more than that. The web changes so fast, I just don't see how degree
curriculum's can manage to keep up!

Additionally, everything you want to know about the web is already out there
for FREE! Initially you may struggle to learn the language, but the learning
curve isn't that steep. I would use trusty old Google, books and blogs. You
can find podcasts, screencasts and tutorials on just about anything.

So I hesitate to recommend spending several thousand dollars to get a degree
in web design. But, admittedly I don't know much about the program.

I was a public accountant for 3 years before I switched to web
design/development. I initially took a couple of ACC Webmaster certification
program courses, but to be honest, I learned most everything I know on my
own. That is the wonderful thing about the open source nature of the web.
People will post their pet projects and show you how they did it. Someone
else will take that and extend or customize it to their needs and so
on...and so on. The information is so freely available that it is easy to
find what you need. Communities like Refresh-Austin help are great too.

That's my two cents. Good Luck!
