OK, but in addition to fat-fingering there might be some issues with 
non-mounted directories after restart, etc.  In other words, even if Kudu 
restarts successfully, it might end up in a bigger trouble if writing into a 
volume that's not intended to store substantial amount of data.  The prior 
behavior was able to point to such inconsistencies.  With the new behavior it's 
no longer possible.

Do you think it's worth to at least add a flag to be have an option to return 
to the original 'strict', bad-mouth-taste behavior?
