It is a rational, though I hope mistaken assumption that the U.S. attacked
Iraq because of a potential risk to Israel. I think the reasons far more
sinister and had everything to do with establishing a foothold with more
control than we have in Saudi Arabi and not one where the regime is as
unpredictable as Saudi Arabia, even though there are members of that
regime who can be counted on to collaborate with the U.S. I know many
Israelis who were opposed to the war between the U.S. and Iraq and many
there believe it further destablized the middle-east, making it more
danagerous for Israel. But we all know also that Israel is no monolith of
singlular thinking about anything. Many in Israel are opposed to the
occupation. Not just ours, but theirs. We must side with them, the
progressives in Israel and not the government of Israel in calling for an
end to both occupations. Once that is done the attitude, though mistaken
as it may be on their notion that their occupiers are Jews or agents of
the Jews, and that false notion will dissipate once the occupations are
ended: BOTH OF THEM.
