I use the original release date, for the following reasons: - I usually don't care too much about the bonus tracks, which are usually demos and alternate versions that are historically interesting, but not part of the "true album". Even if I like the bonus tracks on their own merits, I still don't consider them part of the "true album"
- Regarding mastering, I don't own more than one version of a single album. I have the one I like best, and consider it the definitive version. - I like to sort my albums by year (and I'd like SlimServer to do that too, so I've voted for the bug). Using reissue dates would screw up a band's chronology, which is often relevant (band membership may be quite different over time). This gets tricky when you're considering albums released in different years in different countries, and even different versions in different countries (consider the Beatles). In general, I consider the first release to be the definitive version and all subsequent versions to be simply alternate versions of this original. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, though. If, for whatever reason, there's something about a particular version of a song or album I feel the need to make a special note of, I use the COMMENT tag. It's human-readable if I need it, but I have no expectation that software will be able to do anything with the data there. -- CatBus ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31924 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
