I don't disagree with the collective conclusion here...FLAC is the way
for me too. But...if the poster is a microsoft guy, then WMA is not
necessarily a bad way to go. Unfortunately, FLAC is not like MP3,
Windows Media Player nor iTunes support FLAC like they do MP3, so
choosing the platform independent format is not as easy a decision to
make as it was for lossy. If he wants to use a certain program, that
could drive his decision. The argument still holds that he could
convert later to FLAC if needed.

I'm only raising this since my MCE box is useless with my music, but
WMA would work fine. I maintain a separate MP3 copy of my music as a
result. There are other variables besides avoiding MS lock-in, etc.
And, I think about the rest of my family that would be annoyed with the
extra steps FLAC would require so that they could use their music
seamlessly. I don't assume everyone is willing to deal with the
hassles I deal with to be proprietary free.

Also, we all talk about "you can always convert." That's true, but it
takes a long time to do and a lot of disk space. So, while it is
obviously possible, it's still better to pick the most useful format
for you up front.
