I've ripped many lps using my internal Yamaha XG soundcard over the
years and it has worked well.  I wanted to find a solution that worked
just as well using a USB device that I could use with my laptop.  

I got this for Christmas and I find it to work REALLY well:

I like that it has RCA jacks for input/output and that it has positive
gain on the input for those tapes/lps with lower level signals.  It is
well constructed and has knobs rather than software controls.  It is
very quiet too - no hum.

It can accomodate both line in and phono inputs, so you can use it with
another phono pramp.  It has an external power supply so you can use it
just as a phono pre amp.
