It's certainly the case that vinyl playback has a "sound of its own" which can actually be very appealing. But every aspect of that characteristic sound can be fully captured with 16/44 recording.
By all means record vinyl at 24 bit if it makes you feel better. It can't do any harm, and psychologically it might even do some good.
